Refunds and Cancellation

Last updated: [PLACEHOLDER: date]

In short

  • Your 7-day free trial is free. Cancel before it ends and you pay nothing.

  • If you do not cancel, we charge A$29 per month [PLACEHOLDER: per workspace] from the end of the trial, renewing monthly.

  • Cancel any time in [PLACEHOLDER: Settings > Billing]. You keep access until the end of the month you have paid for.

  • We do not refund part months, but we always refund billing mistakes, and your rights under consumer law always apply.

1. Your free trial

1.1 Every new workspace starts with a 7-day free trial. You add a payment card when you start, so your work carries on without interruption if you decide to stay. We do not charge the card during the trial. [CONFIRM: whether a temporary authorisation hold is placed by Stripe; if so, say so here.]

1.2 [PLACEHOLDER: "We will email you [2] days before your trial ends to remind you of the date and the price." Include once built.]

1.3 If you do not cancel before the end of the 7th day [PLACEHOLDER: state the exact time and timezone, or "before the time shown in Settings > Billing"], your subscription starts and your card is charged A$29.

1.4 One free trial per person or business.

2. Billing

2.1 You are billed monthly in advance, in Australian dollars, on the same date each month as your subscription started.

2.2 [PLACEHOLDER: GST and tax wording.] Your bank may charge foreign transaction fees if your card is not in Australian dollars.

2.3 Receipts are emailed to the account owner and are available in [PLACEHOLDER: Settings > Billing].

2.4 If we change our prices, we will tell you at least [PLACEHOLDER: 30] days before the new price applies to you, and you can cancel before then.

3. How to cancel

3.1 Go to [PLACEHOLDER: Settings > Billing] and choose Cancel subscription. You do not need to email or call us. If you have trouble, email hello@heyscope.io and we will cancel for you from the date of your email.

3.2 We will confirm your cancellation by email.

3.3 During the trial: you will not be charged. Your access ends when the trial ends.

3.4 After the trial: your subscription will not renew. You keep full access until the end of the billing month you have already paid for.

4. Refunds

4.1 Part months. We do not give refunds or credits for part months or unused features after a monthly charge, except as set out below or where the law requires it.

4.2 Billing errors. If we charge you the wrong amount, charge you twice or charge you after you cancelled, we will refund the incorrect amount. Tell us within [PLACEHOLDER: 60] days at hello@heyscope.io.

4.3 Forgotten trial. [PLACEHOLDER: founder decision. Suggested: "If you meant to cancel your trial and have not used Scope since your first charge, email us within 7 days of that charge and we will refund it." This goes beyond what the law requires and builds trust.]

4.4 If we end or materially reduce the service. If we close your account for a reason other than a breach of our terms, or remove a feature that is a material part of what you pay for, we will refund fees paid for the period after that date.

4.5 How refunds are paid. Refunds go back to the card you paid with, normally within [PLACEHOLDER: 5 to 10] business days after we process them, depending on your bank.

5. Your rights under consumer law

5.1 Australia. Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. If there is a major failure with the service, you may be entitled to cancel and receive a refund for the unused portion, or compensation for its reduced value. For other failures you may be entitled to have the problem fixed within a reasonable time, and if that does not happen, to cancel and receive a refund for the unused portion. [Lawyer: check wording against ACL ss 267 and 268 for services, and the business-customer position.]

5.2 New Zealand. If you are a consumer, you have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 that this policy does not limit. [Lawyer: confirm whether Scope contracts out for business customers under s 43.]

5.3 United Kingdom. If you are a consumer in the UK:

  • You have the right to cancel within 14 days of starting your subscription without giving a reason. Because the service starts straight away when you start a trial and you ask for that, if you cancel in this period after you have been charged, we may deduct an amount for the service you have used. [Lawyer: confirm how this works with a free trial, the express request and acknowledgement required at checkout under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and the model cancellation form.]

  • From [PLACEHOLDER: commencement date, expected January 2027], new rules under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 give additional cooling-off rights when a free or discounted trial converts to a paid subscription, and require reminder notices. We will update this policy before those rules apply.

5.4 Nothing in this policy limits rights you have under the law where you live.

6. Failed payments

6.1 If a payment fails, we will email you and try again over [PLACEHOLDER: 7] days. You can update your card in [PLACEHOLDER: Settings > Billing].

6.2 If the payment still fails, we may pause paid features until it is paid. Your content is not deleted at this point. We will give you at least [PLACEHOLDER: 30] days' notice by email before deleting anything.

7. Your work after you cancel

7.1 After your subscription ends you have [PLACEHOLDER: 30] days to export your content, including files, media, transcripts, proposals, signed contracts and invoices. [CONFIRM: export formats and whether access is read-only during this period.]

7.2 After that we delete your workspace content within [PLACEHOLDER: 90] days, unless the law requires us to keep certain records (for example billing records).

7.3 Client portals and share links stop working when your workspace is closed. Tell your clients first if they need copies of anything.

8. Payments from your clients

Refunds of payments your clients made to you through Scope invoices are a matter between you and your client and are handled in your Stripe account. Scope does not hold those funds. [PLACEHOLDER: describe whether refunds can be issued from Scope or only from the Stripe dashboard.]

9. Contact

Billing questions and refund requests: hello@heyscope.io. Please include your workspace name and the date and amount of the charge.
