Acceptable Use
Last updated: [PLACEHOLDER: date]
1. Purpose
Scope is a workspace for creative work and the business behind it. This policy sets out what you, your team members and anyone you invite (including clients using portals and share links) must not do with Scope. It forms part of our Terms of Service. If you break it, we may remove content or suspend access as described in section 12.
2. Use Scope lawfully
Do not use Scope to break any law or regulation that applies to you, your clients or anyone else, including privacy, consumer protection, anti-spam, tax, sanctions, export and intellectual property laws.
3. Recording and personal information
3.1 The Scope Mac app does not add a bot to calls and does not announce itself. You must:
tell every participant before you record a call or meeting;
get consent wherever the law requires it (rules differ by country and, in Australia, by state and territory);
stop recording if someone objects where their consent is required;
not record anyone secretly, or record conversations you are not part of.
3.2 Do not upload, record or share personal information about anyone unless you have a lawful basis to do so and have told them how it will be used where the law requires.
3.3 Do not use Scope to collect or store sensitive information (such as health, financial account or government identity numbers) unless it is needed for your work with that person and you handle it lawfully. Do not use Scope to store card numbers; card payments are handled by Stripe.
4. Content
Do not upload, create, share or publish content that:
infringes anyone's copyright, trade marks, privacy, publicity or other rights, including client work you do not have permission to share;
[v3 addition, 7 Oct 2026] uses other people's images or work as moodboard references or media in a way you don't have the right to, for example sharing, publishing or passing off a third-party image as your own or your client's work (keeping a reference for private inspiration is different from publishing it) [LAWYER TO CONFIRM wording];
is sexual content involving minors, or exploits or harms children in any way;
is non-consensual intimate imagery, or sexual content shared without the consent of the people shown;
threatens, harasses, bullies or incites violence or hatred against any person or group;
promotes terrorism or violent extremism;
is defamatory, fraudulent or deceptive, including fake invoices, phishing pages or impersonation;
contains malware or harmful code.
5. Client portals, share links and portfolio pages
5.1 Use portals and share links to share work with clients and collaborators. Do not use them as public file hosting, to distribute content at scale, or to host material unrelated to your projects.
5.2 Only publish work on a portfolio page if you have the right to do so, including any permission your client agreement requires.
5.3 Do not use the project conversation or Scope emails to send spam or unsolicited marketing.
5.4 [v3 addition, 7 Oct 2026] Do not choose a portfolio handle or publish a portfolio page that impersonates another person, studio or brand, or that misleads people about whose work it is. Do not publish identifiable images of people on a public portfolio page without the permission or lawful basis you need.
5.5 [v3 addition, 7 Oct 2026] Scope Sign. Do not use Scope Sign to forge a signature, to sign for someone without their authority, to send documents for signature to people who are not party to them, or to make a document look signed or agreed when it was not. [LAWYER TO CONFIRM]
6. Security and service integrity
Do not:
try to access accounts, workspaces, portals or data that you are not authorised to access;
probe, scan or test the security of Scope without our written permission hello@heyscope.io;
interfere with or overload Scope, or bypass usage allowances, rate limits or access controls;
scrape, copy or harvest data from Scope by automated means except through features we provide;
reverse engineer Scope except as the law permits;
share login details, or resell or sublicense access to Scope without our agreement.
7. Intellectual property complaints
If you believe content in Scope infringes your copyright or other rights, email hello@heyscope.io with:
your name and contact details;
the work you say is infringed;
the link or a description that lets us find the content;
a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised, and that your notice is accurate.
We will review the notice, may remove or disable the content, and will tell the workspace owner so they can respond. If the owner gives us a reasonable counter-notice, we may restore the content. We may close the accounts of repeat infringers.
8. Reporting harmful content
Anyone can report content they believe breaks this policy, including content seen through a portal, share link or portfolio page, by emailing hello@heyscope.io. Tell us where the content is and why you are reporting it. We will acknowledge reports within [PLACEHOLDER: 2] business days and act on urgent reports, such as child sexual exploitation material or threats to safety, as quickly as we can, including reporting to the authorities where required. [Lawyer: confirm obligations under the Australian Online Safety Act 2021 and whether the UK Online Safety Act 2023 applies to public portfolio pages or share links.]
9. AI features
Do not use Scope AI or other AI features to:
create content that breaks section 4;
impersonate a real person, or generate deceptive material presented as real;
make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on people without human review;
attempt to extract the underlying models, system instructions or other users' data, or to get round safety limits;
send AI output to clients without reviewing it.
10. Payments
10.1 Use Scope invoices and payment links only for genuine creative or professional services and related goods that you provide to your clients.
10.2 Do not use client payments for any business or activity that Stripe prohibits or restricts (see Stripe's list of restricted businesses), for transactions you do not provide yourself, or to move money for others.
10.3 Do not create false invoices, charge clients for work you have not agreed with them, or use payment links to mislead anyone.
11. Fair use of allowances
Plans include allowances for [PLACEHOLDER: recording and transcription hours, AI usage, storage]. Use Scope as part of your own creative business. If your use is far beyond what the plan is designed for or is affecting other users, we will contact you first to talk about options before taking any action.
12. What we may do
12.1 If we reasonably believe this policy has been broken, we may:
ask you to remove or change content;
remove or disable content, share links, portals or portfolio pages;
limit or suspend features, client payments or your account;
end your account in serious or repeated cases;
report matters to law enforcement, Stripe or other authorities where the law requires or it is necessary to prevent harm.
12.2 We will normally tell you what we have done and why, and give you a chance to respond, unless that would be unlawful, create a risk of harm or compromise an investigation.
12.3 Appeals. If you think we got it wrong, reply to our notice or email hello@heyscope.io within [PLACEHOLDER: 14] days. Someone who was not involved in the original decision will review it where possible, and we will tell you the outcome.
